Daycation

This weekend, Keaton and I tried, to some success, being spontaneous. With the yard work at a temporary standstill, and the warm weather still gracing us with her presence, we thought an overnight camping trip would be a splendid idea. We loaded up our gear, our puppies, and our determination and set out for American Fork Canyon.

Our goal: Timpanokee Road and an open campsite for the night.

After driving several hours, and seeing the gorgeous fall colors, we finally found a camping spot. It was a perfect - minus the left over garbage from the last campers (we kindly picked up what we could). We pitched our tent, and set out to start our fire. Thank heavens for Keaton. Without him, I would freeze in the wilderness! We were about to start dinner when we realized that the propane tank didn't match the burner. First pitfall.

Then we saw this younger gentleman walking through the aspen grove carrying his rifle. Keaton tried to reassure me that he was probably just scouting deer for the upcoming hunting season, but needless to say, I was a bit concerned. Pitfall two.

Then, as we were looking how to cook our dinner - using a pan and a rock and some hot coals - it began to rain. Normally a little rain wouldn't deter us from camping, but the roads we took to get to our spot are easily washed out. The last and final straw. We packed up and headed down.

Getting away for a day was really nice and the puppies had so much fun running around in the endless wilderness. Our spontaneous trip may not have been a complete success, but it definitely was a blast!
